Confluence

Coming Fall, 2026

Confluence follows two families converging to explore new ways to relate their lives to work, care, and money. Their seemingly ordinary decisions ripple through the community until a small town is transformed. Competition, cynicism, fear, and greed were washed away. Residents opted instead for trust, cooperation, and equality as the core values by which to live.

The two families’ children, childhood best friends, eventually marry and have children. The rivulets of their lives flow through a town called Jubilee where new parents take years of leave to care for their children; where every family can attain their needs; where those who wish to work are able, and pay is equitable; where none live in mansions or in tents.

All of which may sound Utopian, until you read the story of how small decisions gather into extraordinary change. Afterward, you may wonder why we aren’t all moving in the same direction, or creating our own Jubilee.

Jubilee:
The Emancipation of Life and Love

Published August, 2024

Many Americans live out a story like a creed. It begins with a big bang, then proceeds to the Divine Creation of sinners Adam and Eve. Evolution progresses into capitalism from the survival of the fittest. The rich are smart and the weak are poor. It has nothing to do with race. Those unable to compete for more naturally go extinct. The Earth was created for human consumption—even if appetites lead to self-destruction. Fear is a waste. The Free Market’s invisible hand, or God’s begotten son, will surely save us. And yet, a vast majority remain skeptical. The spiritual but not religious; Christians who love the teaching of Jesus more than the rhetoric of churches; neighbors who experience violence, fear, frustration, hunger, and loneliness, not to mention hope and compassion, persist in a more just and truthful possibility. Jubilee: The Emancipation of Life and Love is neither a new story nor a long-lost and forgotten Utopia. It is a story of healing the discontent in our relationships with work, money, the planet, and each other. The Jubilee is already, and it’s not yet. It surrounds us every day and patiently awaits. The invitation is in your hands and the door is always open.

A Quiet Revolution
of the Heart

Published August, 2021

The book describes a revolution which begins in the interior spaces of our being (spiritual, emotional, mental) and moves outward from there; through our relationships, homes, communities of exchange, and ultimately to the planet which joins us all together. The revolution it describes is one for equality, freedom, and peace. It is one for our healing.

In the book we join a conversation about our relationship with money and the human suffering it brings on. It describes the myths which justify that suffering and separate us from each other and all of our neighbors on the planet. It recalls an ancient story that has long been awaiting our participation. It is a story which has been told many times before, but seems less often heard today. This book is my effort to tell the story once more so it can be handed down again. And hopefully someday soon, acted upon.
